FedEx Pulish Global Citizenship Report -- Road Safety

At FedEx, pedestrian and road safety is a top priority. They are one of the biggest company in the world with many trucks on the road. Therefore, they care about road safety and invest in the cause. With more than 90,000 FedEx trucks on the road, safety is one of their core values and the top priorities. Every day, there have more than 3,200 people lose their lives and 136,000 are seriously injured in vehicle-related crashes around the globe. Almost half of those are “vulnerable” road users, including motorcyclists, pedestrians, and children.

FedEx in United States have published their Global Citizenship Report for 2014. In this global citizenship, it is about connecting the world responsibly and resourcefully. More than ever, they have aligning the citizenship goals with their business goals, it was to create the most far-reaching, impactful programs possible.

The annual global citizenship report also covers that, FedEx enterprise-wide strategies, goals, programs and progress across the four key pillars which are Economic Development, Environment, Community and people. Data in this report covers each of their operating companies and all geographies. This report give a focus on the depth of FedEx’s investment in communities around the world and in other way, they also focus on the road safety.

FedEx is a proud supporter of Youth For Road Safety (YOURS) and their efforts to #SafeKidsLives around the world. Recently, they have assisted YOURS in delivering a pre-training workshop on NGO and Corporate Fundraising at 4^th Meeting of the Global NGO Alliance for Road Safety. FedEx as a member of the UN Global Road Safety Collaboration, they also has ongoing on road safety initiatives in more than 10 countries worldwide and has reached more than 10 million children with lifesaving road safety education programs.

FedEx have shared the road and responsibility to make it in a safer place by putting their logistics expertise to work on it. In addition to comprehensive internal driver in safety policies, programs, and training, they support road safety initiatives around the world implemented by organization such as:

Safe Kids Worldwide: a global network of organizations working together to prevent accidental injury.

EMBARQ: the World Resources Institute’s Center for Sustainable Transportation dedicated to connecting people to jobs safely and economically, including a Safety First driver training program in Mexico.

UN road safety program: FedEx as member of UN Road Safety Collaboration, they also shared the safety information with governments, nonprofits, and business. FedEx also support the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety in its goal to save five million lives by 2020.

Now, FedEx is highly concerned about road safety. As a road user, we should have the conscious like FedEx, which is learn to be initiative instead of being a passive road user. Road safety is bringing up to the global attention, your initiative in joining our Promise Me Campaign will force us to improve into more better ways, can alert most of the road user at the same time and within your actions will be very supportive to ours. TAR Cup In Australia

TAC Cup in Australia with road safety messages

Transport Accident Commission (TAC) Cup is an under 18 Australian rules football representative competition held in Victoria, Australia. It is based on geographic regions throughout country Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne with each team representing 12 Victorian regions.

Other than using the normal and traditional ways such as encourage drivers follow road rules and regulations, TAC sponsored a campaign featuring AFL commentator Dennis Commeti with footallers Luke Evetts and Sam Hooper to spread the road safety message among football followers and promote road safety. Their target audiences are young drivers and they target young drivers through sport.

The higher chances you get hurts when you increase the speed on the road. ”Speed Hurts” was the main message part of the 21st year of the TAC Cup, Each year, about 100 people are killed on our roads in crashes that have speed as a major contributing factor. The TAC's goal is to make speeding as socially unacceptable as drink driving and promoting the dangers associated with speeding will be spread across the state through the TAC Cup.

The TAC Cup provides an opportunity for talented regional players to participate in a high standard competition without having to relocate too far from their place of origin.

The 2015 TAC Cup Hoodie design was created by internationally recognized street style artist Travis Price. The message of his design is all about the tagline of the Cup, 'Speed Hurts'. Travis created his hoodie design to make sure players understand the responsibility that comes with being on the road.

Rule and Regulation of Road in Malaysia - Overtaking

       Malaysia is the highest road fatality risk among the region of ASEAN. One of the causes of the road accident actually is the overtaking action on the road.

So, what is OVERTAKING?

            Overtaking actually is the action of the involvement of one vehicle who wish to past or overtake the slower moving. The overtaking action happens for the two vehicles that travel in the same direction. So, I think is important to share out about the rule and regulation of overtaking on the road to you all. It will able to ensure all of us drive in the safe condition.

       When overtaking for another vehicle, you must make sure the area does not have the road sign that showed in above. If you found the road sign, it means that this area is not allowed for the overtaking. As I mentioned before, overtaking is happen on the two moving vehicle who travel in the same direction. So before overtaking, you must make sure about the condition on the opposite road. Double check is it there is any vehicle travel with a faster speed at the opposite road. If YES, do not try to overtake, be patient and wait until the opposite is clear and safe for overtaking. Another important thing is REMEMBER to activate for the signal or indicators before we want to overtake. The function of the signal will able to let the other vehicle to know about the direction that you wish to travel and it will ensure the safety of when travel in the road.

You are NOT ALLOWED for overtaking:

            You cannot overtake when you are almost reaching the summit of a bridge. It is because you cannot make sure is it any vehicle is coming from opposite side. Another thing is do not overtake when you are in the curve of the road. Same with the first one, it is hard for us to know the condition of the opposite road. When you are driving under the low visibility area, please slow down your speed and do not try to overtake. It is a dangerous action which may affect your life.

                                                                                                           

            When there are another vehicle try to overtaking your vehicle, you should slow down your speed and move to the left side in order to let the vehicle for overtake for your vehicle. Do not try to speed up your vehicle when you are overtaking by other, if will cause a serious accident. If you saw a vehicle stop stationary in front of you, please reduce your speed and always be careful try to get a far distance for that vehicle to avoid crash with the people who come out from the vehicle. 

In conclusion, I hope every road user can be patient when traveling in the road. This is not a game, it is about our life, do not try to make the people who love you be sad and worry.

Rules and Regulation of Road in Malaysia - Driving License in Malaysia

As the road user of Malaysia, we should know about the process for getting our license. It is because it is the most basic knowledge before you get yourself to road.

WHO can get the driving license?

A Malaysian who reaches the age of 16 will able to get the Motorcycle license (B2). A Malaysian who reaches the age of 17 can get the car license (D).  

If anyone who wish to get the lorry license the requirement of it is must reach the age of 21 or above.

For a Malaysian who wants to get any three of these license need to pass through the Highway Code Test. This test is conduct with two type of language which are English or Bahasa Malaysia.

For the people who success to pass the Highway Code Test, they need to attend for a Theory course which take the time of 6 hours.

About the theory course, the 1^st 3 hours is use for provide the knowledge of maintaining the car in the good condition. So, in order to enhance the knowledge of maintain car in the good condition, JPJ provide the knowledge like changing the engine oil and oil filters, changing of spark plugs, washing the engine compartment and also polishing the car. This information is useful for the road user to ensure their vehicle in a good condition and it will avoid from the road accident. Another 3 hours is for the purpose of practical lesson. It means the students need to turn their knowledge that just learns before the 3 hours into the real practical. For example, you may be instructed for changing the tyres.

After the theory class, they need to take part in the test of rules and regulations of road. There are total 3 sections for this test. The minimum marks that required scoring in order to pass the test is 42 marks. For those who can pass the test they are qualified to get the L license (Learner Probationary Driver’s license). This license is the basic license for every one which provide the 3 month time for you to experience the feel of handling the vehicle.

            After that the next step is the driving lesson and also the driving test.

After that, the driving school will assigned an instructor or tutor for you. He/ She will be the person who teaches you about the skills of handling the vehicle. They will teach you based on three main scopes. First is the slope climbing, side parking techniques and 3-Point turn man-oeuvres. When you are in the test, you also need to drive the car to the major road that already planned before by the driving school.

     Road signs serve as visible reminders for road users which appear along any road or motorway. These signs carry out different messages of instruction or information to people on road. Learning of road signs is one part of Theory class before drivers passed with their driving license because it is very important for driver to understand the condition of road to avoid accident.

     Usually, the road signs in Malaysia are consistent with the international road signs, but some of them had been translate to be Malay words for the occasional usage.
