There are many drivers do not follow the speed limit in Malaysia. In
fact, the speed limit of expressways and state road are different. Firstly, expressways
are defined as high-speed highways built the JKR R6 rural highway standard. The highest national speed limit in Malaysia is
110km/h for private vehicles whenever the speed limit for heavy vehicles is 90km/h. However, certain areas have a lower speed limit (such as 90km/h or
80km/h), especially large urban areas, crosswinds, heavy traffic and
in dangerous mountainous routes.

On the other hand, State roads or secondary roads which have one
lane are mostly found on the outskirts of cities, in older sections of cities,
and in rural areas. The speed limit is 60 to 90 km/h. typically, there is a speed
limit signboard beside of the road, therefore driver should control their speed
which following the signboard.
For those who violate the speed limit, he/ she will receive a
summons. It is because speed camera can detect the speed of driver. If the
driver over speed, it will snap the photo and make it as evidence. The summons
amount is as follow: RM150 if settled within 15 days, RM200 if settled between
16 to 30 days and RM300 if settled after more than 30 days.
